28 Nov International volunteer dentists visit Nicaragua

For the first time ever, an international dentist brigade from Humble Smile Foundation,  coordinated by Seeds for Progress, has been in Nicaragua from November 9th and leave the 29th doing volunteer activities promoting oral care and hygiene to students.
For almost three weeks, four volunteers from all over the world (Mexico, Sudan, Australia and Sweden) have done several activities to prevent dental problems to more than 600 children and 28 teachers in Modesto Armijo School, in San Juan de Rio Coco, Madriz, where 30% of the families are dedicates to coffee producing activities. In addition to performing the required dental interventions, the volunteers are promoting preventive care through training and donated oral care products such as toothbrushes and toothpastes.
Among the key findings, the brigade found that 4 out of 5 children in the school had cavities, therefore this highlights the importance of promoting dental care with more brigades like this one.
